WONDER WOMAN WARBRINGER by Leigh Bardugo / Blog Tour: Book Review #WonderWoman #Warbringer

I am so thrilled to be the next stop for the WONDER WOMAN WARBRINGER blog tour, hosted by Random House. I grew up a huge fan of Linda Carter being Wonder Woman. When the movie came out this summer, I took my kids to go see it, and then anxiously awaited the release of Leigh Bardugo's Wonder Woman book. This book did not disappoint.

The highly anticipated, entirely new coming-of-age story for the world's greatest super hero: WONDER WOMAN by the # 1 New York Times bestselling author LEIGH BARDUGO.

She will become one of the world's greatest heroes: WONDER WOMAN. But first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. . . .

Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mere mortal. Even worse, Alia Keralis is no ordinary girl and with this single brave act, Diana may have doomed the world.

Alia just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn't know she is being hunted. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together, Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. If they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

MY REVIEW

An awesome story! Bardugo gives an iconic character a whole new story for fans to love. With her trademark writing of strong characters, rich world building and surprising plot twists, this story will have long time Wonder Woman fans, as well as new ones, wanting more.

Bardugo has done a wonderful job at creating a whole new story for Wonder Woman fans to fall in love with. I really enjoyed reading a different part of Diana's story. I love the sisterhood that exists in this story with Diana and Alia. I also enjoyed the diversity, the rich setting, world building and cultural diversity in this story. Not to mention the characters who each play just as crucial of a role in this story, as Diana does.

What's not to love about Diana? The essence of who Wonder Woman is well portrayed at the heart of this story. I love everything she stands for, and her quest to do better. This time around I also had sympathy for her. It was easy for me to understand her feelings of trying to do something, but feeling like it's not working out correctly or she's not measuring up. I was a little surprised by that, yet at the same time I enjoyed connecting to her on that level. It made her relatable. Make no mistake, Diana is a woman of strength, grace, beauty, and in fighting for all that is good. She's empowering. I can't help but love her for all she is, and all that she stands for.

While I absolutely enjoyed getting to know Diana Prince, I also enjoyed getting to know each of the other characters, who play as big of a role in this story as Diana does. Alia, Nim and Theo were all characters I instantly liked. I knew coming into this story that Bardugo wasn't going to disappoint in telling a different side to Diana's story, and she didn't. These characters added so much more to the story.

The diversity in this book is fabulous! It's not just the diverse characters, but their heritages, as well as where the story is set. Alia and her brother both have an intriguing origin, which was interwoven into Diana's story effortlessly. There's a surprising twist with that in the plot. I also really enjoyed the elements of classic super hero action scenes, character arch, and the character journey Diana goes on.

One of my favorite elements from this story is not just the strength that Diana encompasses and what she stands for, but the sisterhood, the friendship and real support she and Alia have. I love that these two worked together, with no resentment, or tearing each other down, and created a strong, united front. That in itself was empowering in this story. The thing I love about Wonder Woman is she inspires us, her fanbase, and the readers of this book, to embrace who we are, and stand united as woman to do good where we are, and to be the best versions of ourselves.

WARBRINGER is a fantastic edition to the over all story of Diana Prince / Wonder Woman. I highly recommend picking this book up. This book is a great addition to the constantly growing fan base of iconic super heroes. I'm hoping there will be a sequel to this story.
