Return to the darkly beautiful world of The Sin Eater's Daughter with a sequel that will leave you awed, terrified . . . and desperate for more.

Ever since her brother Lief disappeared, Errin's life has gone from bad to worse. Not only must she care for her sick mother, she has to scrape together rent money by selling illegal herbal cures. But none of that compares to the threat of the vengeful Sleeping Prince whom the Queen just awoke from his enchanted sleep.

When her village is evacuated as part of the war against the Sleeping Prince, Errin is left desperate and homeless. The only person she can turn to is the mysterious Silas, a young man who buys deadly poisons from Errin, but won't reveal why he needs them. Silas promises to help her, but when he vanishes, Errin must journey across a kingdom on the brink of war to seek another way to save her mother and herself. But what she finds shatters everything she believed about her world, and with the Sleeping Prince drawing nearer, Errin must make a heartbreaking choice that could affect the whole kingdom.

MY REVIEW

A fantastic sequel! The Sleeping Prince has it all. Surprising twists, a shocking ending, a strong heroine, a villain who gives evil a whole new name, romance, and a rich mythology with all the right fantasy elements. This was a book that surprised me, and I enjoyed every moment I spent reading it! The darker fairy tale elements added a lot to this story, and it's mythology.

Picking up where The Sin Eater's Daughter left off, readers will have no time being thrown right back into the rich world Salisbury has created in this companion story. This book introduces readers to some new characters, as well as continues the story of previously introduced character. While this particular story follows that of Errin, it does tie her story with Twylla's, whom The Sin Eater's Daughter story is about.

Errin, Lief's sister, is an awesome heroine! She posses all the qualities I love in a heroine. She is witty, independent, stubborn, loyal, and is someone who is not easily deterred. These qualities help her face all the dangers and unexpected twists she encounters in her story. This girl definitely has a lot going against her. Not only is she trying to find a cure for her ailing mother, she's also hoping that her brother is alive and has survived the fury of the Sleeping Prince, Aurek, who's awoken with a vengeance. Not only that, I swear trouble follows this girl every where she goes.

Every great heroine needs a loyal friend. Silas is that person. One of the things I love about the way Silas is written. At first he's not only a mysterious, hooded character, it's hard to decipher what it is that's really going on between he and Errin. Their friendship is definitely strong, and there's definitely a connection there, but then there are moments they share with their subtle touches, and things that happen between them, that suggest this might be more than a friendship. I love that it wasn't easy to assume what his true feelings are about her, other than it's obvious he really cares for Errin, and she him. Silas is a perfect companion for Errin, and he's someone fans will definitely fall in love with. He's everything that Leif and Aurek are not/haven't been.

I loved Salisbury's writing in this sequel! She effortlessly immerses readers right back into this darker, dangerous, yet exciting world. With unanswered questions answered, shocking twists, unexpected revelations, mystery, danger and a surprising turn of events, this is a companion story that will hold readers captivated from the first page to the very last. I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed this book more than the first one in this series. I loved the main characters, how much richer the mythology became, and I loved seeing how the character stories tied together. What I didn't like was how much a couple of scenes (which I won't mention for the sack of spoilers), and the ending killed me! Talk about a cliff hanger, I did not see that ending coming! I need the next book asap!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Melinda Salisbury lives by the sea, somewhere in the south of England. As a child she genuinely thought Roald Dahl’s Matilda was her biography, in part helped by her grandfather often mistakenly calling her Matilda, and the local library having a pretty cavalier attitude to the books she borrowed. Sadly she never manifested telekinetic powers. She likes to travel, and have adventures. She also likes medieval castles, non-medieval aquariums, Richard III, and all things Scandinavian. The Sin Eater’s Daughter is her first novel, and will be published by Scholastic in 2015. She is represented by the amazing Claire Wilson at Rogers, Coleridge and White. She tweets. A lot.
