Lady Midnight Snippet

Cassandra Clare treated fans to snippet of Lady Midnight! This one might have us snickering just a bit.
Livvy made an exasperated noise, stomped forward, and seized Mark by the back of the shirt. “You don’t want him,” she said to the pink-haired girl. “He has syphilis.”
The girl goggled. “Syphilis?”
“Five percent of people in America have it,” said Ty, helpfully.
“I do not have syphilis,” Mark said in a fury. “There are no sexually transmitted diseases in Faerieland!”
The mundane girls fell instantly silent.
I don't know about you, but all I can hear in my head right now is Will whispering, "Demon Pox."

Lady Midnight will be released on March 8th, 2016! You can find out more about the book, and where you can pre-order it from (if you haven't already), here

A Tribute To Alan Rickman aka Professor Snape

The world has lost some incredible talent this week to cancer. We hate the word cancer. It has affected each of us here on Mundie Moms, on a personal level. This week it affects us on a fan level. Earlier in the week we were saddened to hear of David Bowe's passing. Than, only a couple days later we were devastated to hear about Alan Rickman's passing.

Through out his acting career, Alan has given life to a wide range of characters, but none as beloved as Professor Snape, from Harry Potter. He took a complicated, misunderstood, character like Snape, and gave life to one of the most amazing literally characters. He made us realize how quickly we were to judge this character, and in the end not only made us love him, but had us mourning his death. Possibly even more so than in the books. Which we know is a huge feat to accomplish.

This video below shows how truly amazing Alan was as an actor. It brought tears to my eyes. *If the video doesn't work, watch it HERE on Youtube.*

As the quote says above, Professor Snape taught us that "heroes can hide in the most unlikely of places."

Daniel Radcliffe wrote a beautiful tribute to Alan Rickman. Here's what he said:

Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with. He is also, one of the loyalest and most supportive people I've ever met in the film industry. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter. I'm pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn't have to do that. I know other people who've been friends with him for much much longer than I have and they all say "if you call Alan, it doesn't matter where in the world he is or how busy he is with what he's doing, he'll get back to you within a day".

People create perceptions of actors based on the parts they played so it might surprise some people to learn that contrary to some of the sterner(or downright scary) characters he played, Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny. And certain things obviously became even funnier when delivered in his unmistakable double-bass.

As an actor he was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child. Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career. Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man.

This week alone the world has lost some amazing icons to cancer; Alan Rickman, David Bowe, Brian Bedford (the voice of Robin Hood in Disney's animated Robin Hood movie), Rene Angelil (Celine Dion's husband), and Dan Haggerty (Grizzly Adams). At the end of December the lead singer for Motorhead, Lemmy, passed away from cancer, and on New Year's Eve, singer Natalie Cole passed away (a recent report said she did of heart failure caused by lung disease).

The world mourns so my greats. A friend of mine (thank you Amy) shared a quote from Twitter this week on Facebook, that really sums it up best, "Thinking about how we mourn artists we've never met. We don't cry because we knew them, we cry because they helped us know ourselves." -@ElusiveJ
