Lady Midnight Snippet

Cassandra Clare treated fans to a snippet from Lady Midnight. I can't wait to read this book. You can read the full snippet, which she posted here, below.
“Perfect Diego is the boy Cristina’s mother wants her to marry,” Emma told Livvy. Now it was Cristina’s turn to look betrayed. “It’s not an arranged marriage, not exactly, it’s just that her mother loves him, he’s a Rosales —“
“He’s related to you?” Livvy asked Cristina. “Isn’t that a problem? I mean, I know Clary Fairchild and Jace Herondale are a famous love story, but they weren’t actually brother and sister. Otherwise I think it would probably be a …”
“Less famous love story,” said Emma, with a grin.
Cristina waved her hand dissmisively. “The Rosaleses are a huge Shadowhunting family. I don’t think he’s even a cousin. My mother just thinks it would help cement the Rosales empire. She thinks he’s perfect, so handsome, so smart, such a Shadowhunter, perfect perfect perfect —”
“And now you know how he got his nickname,” said Emma.

Three different teenage girls learn how to navigate their hearts and NYC. City Love is the start of a romantic new series for fans of Sarah Dessen, Stephanie Perkins, and the Carrie Diaries, from bestselling author Susane Colasanti.
Roommates Sadie, Darcy, and Rosanna have big plans for their summer before college. Sadie is looking for love, Darcy is living for the next adventure, and Rosanna is reinventing herself. There will be plenty of distractions—irresistible guys, wrong guys, awkward encounters, 2 a.m. breakfasts, fangirl moments, Nasty Girl, and more—but if they look up they will discover the true meaning of city love.
Susane Colasanti delivers a story about three girls who are following their hearts, falling in love, and hoping to make their dreams come true. NYC provides the perfect back drop for Sadie, Darcy and Rosanna's to do just that. What better than NYC, the city of opportunity, and endless possibilities.

I like that Susane wrote a story about that period of time between high school and college. It's a time of reinventing who you are, and discovering your possibilities. Along the way mistakes are made, lasting friendships are made, and exciting, life changing things can happen. I feel like each of things happened within City Love, or was just beginning to happen. I liked that the story follows the story of all three girls.

City Love is told from Sadie, Darcy and Rosanna's points of view. These girls couldn't be more different, yet their likeness comes within their desire to set out on their own, and find their own place with NYC. I like that these three roommates didn't know each other until they moved in together for the summer. It's through their getting to know each other, that Susane allows readers to get to know each girl more. They each come from a totally different walk of life, giving readers something to connect with one or more of the characters.

Romance wise, each romantic interest was intriguing. Susane writes each character in a way I felt was realistic. With the story written from the point of the three main characters, readers are able to get to know the love interests on a more personal level as they get to know more about the girls themselves. I'll be honest, there is one love interest that I didn't like from the beginning. Upon finding out more about him (I won't mention his name for the sake of spoilers), I'll just say I can't stand him even more so. When you read this story you will know which one I'm talking about, and why I couldn't stand. Like life,

This book had me at summer, NYC and romance! I loved this setting. I felt like I got my own personal tour of the city I've visited a few times. I may have falling in love with NYC all over again through reading this book. I love it when the setting of a book plays a bigger part than just a setting. It became it's own character. NYC may have been my favorite part of this story.

Over all City Love was a good read. I liked getting to know the girls, and I enjoyed falling in love with NYC all over again. I also liked that while not graphic, Susane doesn't shy away from mentioning some more mature topics in this book. There were times within in the story that I could see the beginnings of what could hopefully be a lasting friendship with the roommates. Now I can't wait to read the sequel. That ending left me wanting more! If you're looking for a book to sit down and spend a few hours with, I'd recommend this book.
