Inland by Kat Rosenfield, Blog Tour: Guest Post

Welcome to today's stop in Penguin Teen's INLAND blog tour.
Today I'm thrilled to have author Kat Rosenfield on the blog. Before she talks about what made her want to be a writer, here's a little bit about INLAND:

Inland Summary
Callie Morgan has long lived choked by the failure of her own lungs, the result of an elusive pulmonary illness that has plagued her since childhood. A childhood marked early by the drowning death of her mother—a death to which Callie was the sole witness. Her father has moved them inland, away from the memories of the California coast her mother loved so much and toward promises of recovery—and the escape of denial—in arid, landlocked air.

But after years of running away, the promise of a life-changing job for her father brings Callie and him back to the coast, to Florida, where Callie’s symptoms miraculously disappear. For once, life seems delightfully normal. But the ocean’s edge offers more than healing air … it holds a magnetic pull, drawing Callie closer and closer to the chilly, watery embrace that claimed her mother. Returned to the ocean, Callie comes of age and comes into a family destiny that holds generations of secrets and very few happy endings.

What made you want to be a writer?
Guest post by Kat Rosenfield

Oh man, everything. I love being able to tell stories. I love that I can spend all day just rattling around in my own head and dragging out the weirdest, wildest stuff I can find in there. I love playing with language and ideas and imagery.

And I especially love that being a writer means being surrounded by people who feel the same way, who believe that books are important, because I know what it's like not to have that, and it's just soul-crushing. I had many jobs before I became a writer, and I was so bored and so terrible at all of them except on the rare occasions that I was given something creative to do. I was really starting to feel like there was something really wrong with me, that I had missed out on some essential gene that I needed in order to become a normal, successful adult and play well with other worker bees. It was a relief to finally realize that I just had a different kind of ability, and I needed to do a different kind of work. (Namely, the kind of work that you do in your apartment, with unbrushed hair and no pants on.)

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I'm Not Sure I Want To Read (Mostly I Do Want to Read Them, I Just Haven't Had The Time To)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week's topic is, Books I'm Not Sure I Want To Read. I recently cleaned out my shelves of books I've totally lost interest in reading, so my list is for Books I Do Want To Read, I Just Need More Time to read them.

I have this bad habit of buying books that 1) I can't wait to read and 2) is a book I bought because of all the hype, or a friend mentioned, but now I'm not so sure it will get read 3) Or I received a book to review that sounded great, but I've not had the chance to read it yet. Sadly I have many books that fit under reason 3. I wish I could have a week totally devoted to reading, so that I could get caught up on all the books I want to read. Here are a few books on my list I am planning on reading, but haven't yet because of time (don't judge me):

  • Sapphire Blue - I've been excited about reading this series, but when I received book 2 for review, I went out and bought book 1 to read.  I've not yet started either book because of time, and other previously review commitments.
  • The Selection Series - I have the entire series, and I've heard fabulous things about this series. Now I just need the time to sit and read the entire series.
  • Fangirl - I KNOW, I need to read this one! I started it, but don't have the time to finish it, but I swear I will soon!!!
  • Nantucket Blue - This is a book I bought when it was out at TLA, and sadly I've yet to read it. I even featured it on my list of reads to get through this summer, and yet, I've not had the time *cries*
  • Teardrop - This is another book I bought, because I really enjoyed Lauren Kate's other series, but have yet to have a chance to sit down and read it.
  • Chaos of Stars - I started this book, and had meant to read it and review when it first came out, but got side tracked by other review commitments. I know, that's sad to admit. I adore Kiersten and LOVE her books. This book will be read soon.
  • The Kill Order - I've read The Maze Runner series, but for some reason this book is one that's still sitting on my shelf waiting to be read.
  • The Elemental Series - I NEED to read this book. So many readers have told me how much I will enjoy it, and that they'd love to see it reviewed on Mundie Moms. I have the first 3 books sitting on my shelves, and I am trying to make the time to read it.
  • The Watchers series- Again, this is another series I have the first 3 books from it, but because of time I've not yet had the chance to read it.
  • Outlander - This is an adult book that I started a long time ago, but never finished. It's been sitting on my shelf for a couple years waiting to be read. Now that the book has been made into a tv series, I have to finish this book.
Have you read any of the books on my list? If so, what did you think of them? Do you find yourself having the same problem I do with having way too many books and not enough time to read them all.
