The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings, Blog Tour: Excerpt

Weclome today's THE MURDER COMPLEX blog tour! I'm so thrilled to share a little bit about Lindsay's debut book.

 ABOUT THE MURDER COMPLEX

An action-packed, blood-soaked, futuristic debut thriller set in a world where the murder rate is higher than the birthrate. For fans of Moira Young’s Dust Lands series, La Femme Nikita, and the movie Hanna.

Meadow Woodson, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been trained by her father to fight, to kill, and to survive in any situation, lives with her family on a houseboat in Florida. The state is controlled by The Murder Complex, an organization that tracks the population with precision.

The plot starts to thicken when Meadow meets Zephyr James, who is—although he doesn’t know it—one of the MC’s programmed assassins. Is their meeting a coincidence? Destiny? Or part of a terrifying strategy? And will Zephyr keep Meadow from discovering the haunting truth about her family?

Action-packed, blood-soaked, and chilling, this is a dark and compelling debut novel by Lindsay Cummings.

Zephyr (point of view)

A number is a stupid thing to fear.
57809. Each time I see that one I shiver.
45860. I spin away, face flushed, fingers trembling.
23412. Guilty. Hatred. Anguish. I want to turn around and band my head against a brick wall until it bleeds, until I black out and leave the world behind.

Wards shouldn't have feelings. Especially the boys. We should be tough, able to fend for ourselves. At least, that's what the Initiative tells us.

It's stupid to fear a number.
But I do.
I do.

#BEA14 Recap: Day 1

I can't believe BEA already came a went. I still feel like I should be there from last year, when all the crazy fun was happening (see here). I was so excited to be able to be there again this year. This was my second year attending BEA, and the first time going as press. This trip felt like a whirlwind of a trip, and boy was it a ton of fun!

NYC from across the river. My view from the airplane.

I landed in NJ at around 2 am on Friday morning, and took a cab over to Times Square, where I was staying at with friends. Let's just say that if you don't like crowds, walking around Times Square at 3 am would be right up your alley. haha

I'm not sure how I ended staying upright on my feet by the end of the day. A 15 mins power nap didn't cut it. By the time I was tired enough to go to sleep, this was happening...

Nice view, but serious, the sun rise too early in NYC. haha. My lack of sleep made for an early arrival at BEA, which resulted in my meeting some fabulous BLOGGER FRIENDS! Which, I'll be honest, this makes BEA! Aside from helping at Cassandra Clare's signings, meeting publicists, authors and blogger friends is the purpose of attending this book conference. Yes, it's wonderful to receive books, but in the end the memories are made by the people I meet, and get to hang out with while there!!

THIS was at the main entrance into BEA. I can't even describe to you how cool it was to see this huge wall of Shadowhunter awesomeness! This picture doesn't even do it justice.

I of course had to have a little fun with it, and LOVED seeing Will on this. Due to the size, and spacing, Jem was not featured on it, but each cover for Cassie's books is featured on the bottom of the display. AND this is the area that Simon Teen is giving away TMI goodies every day at 10 & 2! You don't want to miss the goodies they have for fans. There's nothing like messing around with this wall and getting catch by Simon & Schuster. haha At least C thought it was hilarious.

This wall provided the perfect place to meet friends at and it provided the perfect photo opp!

I loved seeing these fabulous friends and bloggers! It was my forest time meeting Jen (Jenuine Cupakes), Hannah (Irish Banana) both pictured above, as well as Jayne from Reads All The Books.  It was grew to see DJ again.

I love it when I run into friends by accident! Which was the case with my fabulous Texas friend who moved to NYC a year ago and now works in publisher, JENNIFER!! I love this girl!

I'm so sorry, as I know there are a lot of people I met that day whom I've accidentally left off the list. I was going by the pic in my phone. It was so awesome to meet so many fabulous online friends and followers. Next time I won't be so sleep deprived that I won't forget names.

AUTHOR SIGNINGS

Friday was a low key day for me. There was only a few things I really wanted to do, meet blogger friends, say hi to a few publicists, attend Simon & Schuster's luncheon, I had a meeting with Disney (I can't wait to share some exciting up coming things from them on Mundie Kids), and get in line for Sarah J. Maas's book! I didn't care if it was 2 hrs our not. That was one of the few books on my wish list that I was hoping to get. Thankfully I was able to do all these things as well as make it to Becca Fitzpatrick's signings, Holly Black's and Christina Lauren.

Simon & Schuster Luncheon

Since I arrived on Friday, I had missed all the exciting publisher events I was invited to. I was so thrilled that Simon & Schuster's luncheon was on a day I was there. I was not going to miss this! This was an awesome event. We heard from Scott Festerfeld, Becca Fitzpatrck, Kresley Cole, Martina Boone & Christina Lauren. Each of them told us a little bit about their books, and Scott revealed his AFTERWORLDS book trailer to us before it went live later that day.

Sadly I didn't get the best pictures and then my phone died shortly after.

Pictured are: Christina Lauren, Scott Westerfeld, Becca Fitzpatrick, Kresley Cole & Martina Boone.

THANK YOU S&S for the fabulous luncheon, and the bag of signed books.

Since I already had received a signed copy of Becca's, and had an arc of Scott's book at home, there was the sweetest HS teacher in front of me in one of the signing lines, whom I started talking to. She said she was a first year english teacher and wanted to stock up her classroom. Myself and Fangirlish gave her a bag full of signed ARCs to help get her classroom library going. Her excitement made my entire day!

Skipping all the ARC drops was the best thing ever, because I stayed clear of all the craziness. lol One of the best things I did coming to BEA was bringing one small bag and my backpack, so that I didn't have room for extra goodies. That helped in limiting when I was offered things to politely decline, no matter how much I may have wanted something. Any extras I did get, I gave away to others while at BEA.

NYC! What an awesome city to visit. The weather was great! After my meeting with Disney (which was so much fun), we headed back to our Hotel. Yeah... the Yotel was literally an experience I won't soon forget. *snickers* It was in walking distance of everything, and we headed off to Times Square.

Fun times with Kimmy (Page to Premiere), Alyssa (TMI Source), and myself.
Oh yeah, and The Rock.... too bad it wasn't really him.

If you're ever in Times Square and a it starts pouring on you, take cover in the Hard Rock cafe! Great food and we had the coolest waiter.

Friday was a lot of fun! It was so great to see everyone, and to just enjoy all that, that day offered. Saturday was going to be insanely fun.

OHH! I have to share this! My friends Erin (Fangirlish) & Alyssa (TMI Source), surprised me with the Shadowhunter hoodie & the Shadowhunter Tarot cards that they got me from Cassie's COHF launch that happened the Monday of BEA. I LOVE these!
