Infernal Devices Clockwork Prince 31 Day Celebration: Day 7, CP Playlist Post #2

It's Day 7 of our 31 Days of Clockwork Prince Celebration and today we're excited to share the second half of Cassie's Clockwork Prince playlist! You can read the 1st half of the playlist here. Like yesterday's post, Cassie has not only shared which songs she choose, but why and how they fit in with Clockwork Prince.

Each song's title and band name is linked back to itunes, making it easy for you to either listen to a sample of the song or purchase it. If you're like us, you'll be purchasing a new sound track this weekend. Enjoy the second half of the playlist!

**************

The soundtrack for Clockwork Prince was a little challenging because I found that I was listening to songs about London, or that mentioned London, over and over, so I decided to do a soundtrack of just London songs. But of course there are a lot of songs about London (“London Calling”, etc) that while fine and dandy on their own didn’t really fit the mood or the narrative. So in the end these are the thirteen that I did pick.

London Bridges, Josh Rouse

This song begins “It was a really cold day in London.” This one’s a little tough without spoilers, but I’m just going to say that for me it’s about Jessamine and how maybe sometimes you lean on people you shouldn't.

But listen honey
I am not the kid, to tell you how to love or how to live
And if you think that I am just a bridge, then I'll be leaving now
This bridge is falling down

London Skies, Jamie Cullum

Will you let me romanticize,
The beauty in our London skies,
You know the sunlight always shines,
Behind the clouds of London skies.

A song about finding beauty in unusual places. I would say this is a song for Henry and Charlotte, who don’t get nearly enough love!

London, Vanessa Carlton

This is a really beautiful song and for me, a quintessential Will song. It’s all about past mistakes, about wandering in the dark, about love and regret and missing your home. I especially like “You’ve got a knife-throwing kind of love!” I honestly don’t know if I think this song is more about him and Tessa or him and Jem, but it doesn’t really matter.

Walk London's windy streets
Go anywhere but home
'Cause I'm looking for the secrets
That only cobble stones hold
Only the cobble stones know

And I've never been so sure
That after all these years, I'll never learn
That heavenly creatures never come

You've got a knife-throwing kind of love
But your silence cuts the deepest
And I know I've made a mess of things
And I'm sorry for all that
Wish we could get the time back

London Rain (Nothing Heals Me Like You Do), Heather Nova

So keep me in your bed all day
Nothing heals me like you do

And when somebody knows you well
Well there's no comfort like that
And when somebody needs you
Well there's no drug like that

And this one is a quintessential Jem song to me. It’s about sickness and healing, about needing to be needed. Parts of it seem to me to be about him and Tessa and other parts, about the comfort of someone who knows you well, seem to be about Will. Either way its about the effect love has on sickness of the spirit.

Under the Gun, the Killers

I don’t know if this one is cheating or not. It does contain the line “Stupid on the streets of London.” Like all Killers songs, there are about fifty things it could be about. But since I choose to believe that it’s about a guy who’s in love with someone who treats him badly, I’m going to say this one is for Magnus and Camille. :D

She's got her halo and wings
Hidden under his eyes
But she's an angel for sure
She just can't stop telling lies
But it's too late for his love
Already caught in a trap
His angel's kiss was a joke
And she is not coming back
Because heaven sends and heaven takes

Werewolves of London, Warren Zevon

I think this one is kind of a gimme.

He's the hairy handed gent who ran amok in Kent,
Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair.
You better stay away from him,
He'll rip your lungs out, Jim,
Huh! I'd like to meet his tailor.

I’ll say it’s about Woolsey Scott, who you’ll meet in CP and of whom I am very fond and who has an excellent tailor.

This is such a fabulous playlist! I love that most every song is about London, which is extremely fitting for Clockwork Prince. Now that you've listened to the entire playlist, what do you guys think?

The Lost Letters of Gabriel: A Dark Divine Original

Available wherever e-books are sold

ISBN-13: 9781606843994; $1.99

Brother Gabriel, Daniel’s mentor and an ancient Urbat, plays an important role in The Lost Saintas well as the upcoming conclusion to the Dark Divine trilogy, The Savage Grace. We were first introduced to Gabriel in The Dark Divine when Grace recieves a book of ancient letters that Gabriel (a young monk at the time) wrote to his sister during the Crusades, detailing his search to know more about the Urbat. The book of letters ends just before Gabriel falls to the Urbat curse, leaving us to wonder what happened to him in the following years to turn him into the man he is today.

Most of Gabriel’s letters were written during the thirteenth century, and later translated and compiled by an Orthodox priest in the eighteenth century. For whatever reason, some of Gabriel’s letters were lost after translation and did not make it into that original book. But good news! A few of these “lost letters,” detailing Gabriel’s fall to the Urbat curse and his quest to seek revenge on the man responsible for his demise, have recently been “discovered” by the indomitable crew at Egmont USA, and are compiled here for your reading pleasure.

I hope you enjoy The Lost Letters of Brother Gabriel. I think they give a lot more depth to Brother Gabriel’s character and the mythology of the Dark Divine trilogy. -quoted from Bree's site

Rapture set to release on June 12th, 2012 by Random House.

The sky is dark with wings. . . .

In RAPTURE, the highly anticipated fourth and final novel in the FALLEN series, Luce and Daniel are together . . . but for how long? Can history be rewritten? Or are some punishments eternal?

Aren't these covers beautiful?!

To be released on November 29th by Coleman and Stott, S.R. Johannes debut sounds like a thrilling read! I can't wait to read it. Here's what the book is about:

16 year old Grace was reared in the wilderness. Her first pet was a bear named Simon. Her first potty, an oak tree. And, her first swing, a forest vine. Grace has lived in the Smokies her whole life, patrolling with her forest ranger father who taught her everything he knew about wildlife, tracking, and wilderness survival. But when Grace's dad goes missing on a routine patrol, unlike everyone in her sleepy mountain town, she refuses to believe he’s dead. When a Cheetos bag and stolen government file materialize, Grace is convinced she’s one step closer to proving all the non-believers wrong.

Then one day while out tracking clues, Grace is rescued from imminent danger by Mo, a hot guy with an intoxicating accent, that’s definitely not from her neck of the woods, and a secret. Grace has never felt a connection like this before, certainly not with her ex-boyfriend, the adoring, but decidedly unrugged Wyn.

Now with renewed confidence, Grace travels deeper into the wilderness that has always been her refuge only to learn that her father's disappearance is not a mere coincidence. Soon she’s enmeshed in a web of conspiracy, deception, and murder. And it’s going to take a lot more than a compass and a motorcycle (named Lucifer) for this kick-butting heroine to emerge from an epidemic that’s spreading like wild fire, threatening everything and everyone she’s ever loved.

Untraceable is a contemporary wilderness thriller for young adults -quoted from Goodreads

Book Review: Smokeless Fire by Samantha Young

Fear the Heat...

For the last two years Ari’s life has been anything but normal and on her 18th birthday, when her friends surprise her with a gimmick genie claiming to grant wishes, Ari discovers the truth. The tragic and strange occurrences surrounding her 16th birthday were not coincidental and her life is never going to be the same again. Ari’s real parents are not normal. They are not loving. They are not human.

They are myth.

They are Smokeless Fire.

They are Jinn. -quoted from Goodreads

I've been a huge fan of Samantha's since I read and fell in love with her Lunamorte series and since then her writing continues to captivate me. I thoroughly enjoyed the world and chacracters she introduces me to in her newest release, Smokeless Fire. This is the first in the Fire Spirits series, who's rich Jinn mythology I found to be both fascinating and refreshing. There's not a lot of YA books out there that dive into the world of Jinn, and Samantha's story was completely intriguing. Her characters are unique, and were so easy to like, and the history behind the 7 brothers was engaging. I loved the history of Smokeless Fire's mythology, and the way in which it's told. Like Ari, I wanted to read more of it.

I also enjoyed the chemistry between the main character Ari and Jai. It was so fabulously written! Samantha not only toys with their emotions, but she leaves me wanting more from these two. Ari's a great character. She's someone who through out the course of the story finds out what she is, learns more about her father and discovers she has an incredibly amazing power. She of course also learns her family line is quite impressive. Jai, the fabulous love interest is also her Jinn body guard. The sarcasm that goes on between these two is hilarious. I swear these two are made to be together, but there's so much going on around them that they wouldn't be able to blur the lines without consequences. I have course don't care about those consequences and want to see them together. Okay, I do care, but still.

No romance is complete without some competition, and luckily this competition is not one I'm impressed with. Ari ticked me off so many times with her fascination with Charlie. I get she's cared about him, and loved him for years, but I swear he's using her and the stuff he does ticks me off to no end. I really wish she would just let Jai have his way with him, although the book ends with a scene that makes me wonder what's going to happen between the three of them in book 2. There are so many great little things added to this story's plot line that makes it so captivating. Samantha reveals just enough of the plot line that kept me hooked, but didn't overly reveal all that's going on. I think this is a great first book in what I think will be a fascinating series. I'd recommend picking this up.
