I am a HUGE fan of Kristin Cashore! I LOVED Graceling, the first book in the series and ever since I read it a few years ago, I've been *patiently* waiting for BITTERBLUE's release. I can not wait for May 1st to get here. This book is at the top of my MUST READ list for next year. What book are you waiting on?

Twitter Tuesday - Clockwork Prince Trailer

A still of Will from Clockwork Prince Trailer by Dirty Robber
So many wonderful links since Dirty Robber's trailer for Clockwork Prince came out yesterday.  First, Dirty Robber posted a list of credits on their facebook page.

Then, TMI Examiner's Natalie Markey is interviewing not only the executive producer, Charles Haines, producer, Heidi Spencer, and the director, Oliver Riley-Smith, but also the cast. Here's a snippet from the interview (which is a must read):

What was your favorite scene to direct/produce? Why?
ORS: For me it was the kissing scene between Tessa and Will. It was a great acting moment with Tessa’s nervousness and Will taking control of the moment.
HS: I had a more overseeing role but I loved the big dance scene. It was great seeing people in character.

And today, Natalie interviews the actor, Cole Shoemaker, who played Will. Such a fun Q & A, here's the link to the full interview:

Did you enjoy playing a Victorian era role?
Cole: This was my first time doing a Victorian Era role. I have to say it was definitely fun. It is interesting to see what clothes they wore and how they wore them. I am now eternally grateful that we get to wear jeans and t-shirts. :)

So true. Can you imagine having to wear corsets or ride in carriages, Mundie Moms? Okay, we may all want to, at least, try it out.

Book Review: The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch

Published by: Scholastic
Released on: September 1st, 2011

3 stars: It Was A Good Read

The wars that followed The Collapse nearly destroyed civilization. Now, twenty years later, the world is faced with a choice—rebuild what was or make something new.

Stephen Quinn, a quiet and dutiful fifteen-year-old scavenger, travels Post-Collapse America with his Dad and stern ex-Marine Grandfather. They travel light. They keep to themselves. Nothing ever changes. But when his Grandfather passes suddenly and Stephen and his Dad decide to risk it all to save the lives of two strangers, Stephen's life is turned upside down. With his father terribly injured, Stephen is left alone to make his own choices for the first time. Stephen’s choices lead him to Settler's Landing, a lost slice of the Pre-Collapse world where he encounters a seemingly benign world of barbecues, baseball games and days spent in a one-room schoolhouse. Distrustful of such tranquility, Stephen quickly falls in with Jenny Tan, the beautiful town outcast. As his relationship with Jenny grows it brings him into violent conflict with the leaders of Settler's Landing who are determined to remake the world they grew up in, no matter what the cost. -quoted from Goodreads

Set in a dark, post war America, The Eleventh Plague follows the story of 15 year old Stephen who's grown up in a country extremely different from the one we know. Now in ruins, most of the citizens have been killed off by a horrid plague and the ones left are scattered and do what they can to survive in this hellish looking land. In a place that offers little hope, Stephen is taking to a town that offers that and more to him and his ailing father.

What I liked about this story is the way Jeff describes the setting, and the emotions that the characters are feeling. It wasn't hard for me to envision what American must look like, nor was it hard for me to feel the despair Stephen felt, and the glimmer of hope his dad had. The settlement of Settler's Landing is their hope. I loved that in the midst of so much destruction and despair, there's a place that stands out against all that and in it's own way is rebuilding and moving on. They have houses, they grow crops and even go to school, which is far different from what Stephen's been doing to survive. The town's people here are true survivors and instead of falling victim to the death, and destruction around them, they've decided to go about living. I liked how Jeff portrayed that in the story.

What I liked about this story was the dystopian theme, the realistic setting, and the action that happens at the beginning of the book and the very end. I had a hard time with the middle of the story. I didn't feel as connected to the story, I didn't find the romance believable at all, and I was a bit frustrated at how so many town's people fell for the pranks two irresponsible teens played, and the havoc they caused. At the same time, I understand why Stephen and his love interest Jenny felt the way they did. They've grown up in a hell that would make people do crazy things. Together they find the little bit of trust and hope they need in order to survive and cope with all the things they've been through.

I liked the hidden messages Jeff includes through out the story. Even in the midst of chaos, destruction and death, there's a glimmer of hope. Like the people of Settler's Landing, you can either fall victim to it, or keep on surviving. In the end this was a good read for me. There's times through out the story I couldn't help but think "what would I do". If you like a dystopian with a realist feel to it, I'd recommend picking up The Eleventh Plague.

The Eleventh Plague

By Jeff Hirsch

“The Eleventh Plague hits disturbingly close to home…An excellent, taut debut novel.” – Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games

In the aftermath of a war, America’s landscape has been ravaged and two thirds of the population left dead from a vicious strain of influenza. Fifteen-year-old Stephen Quinn and his family were among the few that survived and became salvagers, roaming the country in search of material to trade for food and other items essential for survival. But when Stephen’s grandfather dies and his father falls into a coma after an accident, Stephen finds his way to Settler’s Landing, a community that seems too good to be true, where there are real houses, barbecues, a school, and even baseball games. Then Stephen meets strong, defiant, mischievous Jenny, who refuses to accept things as they are. And when they play a prank on the town bully’s family that goes horribly wrong, chaos erupts, and they find themselves in the midst of a battle that will change Settler’s Landing forever.

Underdogs

By Markus Zusak

Before The Book Thief, Markus Zusak wrote a trilogy of novels about the Wolfe brothers: The Underdogs, Fighting Ruben Wolfe, and Getting the Girl. Cameron and Ruben Wolfe are champions at getting into fights, coming up with half-baked schemes, and generally disappointing girls, their parents, and their much more motivated older siblings. They’re intensely loyal to each other, brothers at their best and at their very worst. But when Cameron falls head over heels for Ruben’s girlfriend, the strength of their bond is tested to its breaking point.

iBoy

By Kevin Brooks

Before the attack, Tom Harvey was just an average teen. But a head-on collision with high technology has turned him into an actualized App. Fragments of a shattered iPhone are embedded in his brain. And they’re having an extraordinary effect on his every thought. Because now Tom knows, sees, and can do more than any normal boy ever could. But with his new powers comes a choice: Seek revenge on the vicious gangs who rule the South London housing project where he lives, and who violated his friend Lucy? Or keep quiet and move on? Not even the search engine in his head can predict the shocking outcome of iBoy’s actions. A wifi, thriller by YA master Kevin Brooks.

Book Review: The Death Cure by James Dashner

Published by: Delacorte Press
Released on: October 11th, 2011
Source: book from publisher to review
5 stars: I Loved It

Thomas knows that Wicked can't be trusted, but they say the time for lies is over, that they've collected all they can from the Trials and now must rely on the Gladers, with full memories restored, to help them with their ultimate mission. It's up to the Gladers to complete the blueprint for the cure to the Flare with a final voluntary test.

What Wicked doesn't know is that something's happened that no Trial or Variable could have foreseen. Thomas has remembered far more than they think. And he knows that he can't believe a word of what Wicked says. The time for lies is over. But the truth is more dangerous than Thomas could ever imagine. Will anyone survive the Death Cure? -quoted from Goodreads

Wow, talk about needing to catch your breath after reading a book. I've not read another series that kept me so invested with the story based on the action, the twists and the mystery alone, like this series did! Similar to The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure was non stop action from page one to the every end. Talk about plot twists, this story line is full of them. James Dashner has created a story that's complex, mystifying, and completely engaging. I couldn't get enough of it.

Like being in the dark on what's going to happen next in a story? Well James made it literally impossible for me to try and figure out what was going to happen. Much like Thomas, I had no idea on who I could trust or believe, other than his two closest friends. Was WICKED really good, or were they really evil. Were those working for them really in the dark on what they were doing, or were some of the people there a bit delusional on in their ways? Or maybe they were right. I honestly still have no idea. What I do know, is that The Death Cure takes everything from first two books, and takes up to a whole new level.

I admire James for the fact he's not afraid to inflict pain on his characters. Okay that was nice way of putting torture them. I don't know where the characters get the strength they all have to help them endure all they go through. The Death Cure is brutal on them, emotionally, mentally and physically. It's not just the characters who suffer, but the readers. James isn't afraid to kill off characters I was emotionally invested in, which made for some pretty intense scenes, especially the one between Thomas and...... you'll have to read it to know who I'm talking about. Ugh, that scene was a killer!

The is definitely one action packed series! The first two books did a fantastic job at leading up to what happens in The Death Cure, but let me just say this book is intense! There's violence, which is completely fitting for what is going on in this book, there's casualties, and there's a bit of the unknown in this book, which I liked. James reveals some shocking answers to some of my questions, but he also leaves some open ended, and I liked that. It was very fitting for the series, and had he wrapped up everything nicely, he wouldn't have stayed true to the storyline. While that doesn't normally work for me in a series, it's the perfect ending for Thomas's story. I definitely recommend picking this book up! Be warned, you'll be thinking about everything that happened long after you read it.

Guess what's coming out next year?!? A prequel called The Kill Order! Go HERE to read more information about it's upcoming release.

The wait is FINALLY over! EW have posted the official Clockwork Prince trailer, which was created by Dirty Robber!! Be sure to go HERE to watch it! When we get the code for it, we'll post it here. ENJOY!! I know we're loving Ed Westwick's voice over on the trailer. What do you guy think?

In MOVIE NEWS, TMI Examiner posts that Cassie said they're working on a script for the Infernal Devices movie! YAY!! The TMI movie is still in the works. The examiner also mentioned that Cassie is very happy with the script. Cassie is quoted as saying that the screenplay is the backbone of the movie and this version is much closer to the book. You know that makes us so happy to hear! You can read more of this article here.

Infernal Devices Clockwork Prince 31 Day Celebration: Day 23, One Line Teaser

It's day 22 of our 31 Days of Clockwork Prince Celebrations and the last day of our one line teasers. Today's teaser is between one of our favorite characters, Magnus and Tessa. This line is taking our of context and is from the middle of a conversation they're having.

Mundane Monday #112

Happy Monday!! I'm seriously not ready to get back into the swing of things yet. The kids were off from school last week and it was so nice. There's nothing like a little Jace from City of Bones to start our Monday's off right.....

Clary stopped dead in her tracks. "Simon?"

"Oh, God," said Jace, sounding resigned. "And here I'd actually hoped I'd got hold of something interesting."

Infernal Devices Clockwork Prince 31 Day Celebration: Day 22, One Line Teaser

NEXT WEEK CP will be released!! I can not wait! It's day 22 of our 31 Days of Clockwork Prince and we're winding down our one line teasers. Next week we'll have giveaways, interviews and a couple more teasers, leading up to a CP post you do NOT want to miss on Dec 6th!!

"One finds nobility in the oddest places..."

COLS Teaser & Clockwork Prince Editions & pre-orders

I have no idea how we missed this AWESOME Thanksgiving COLS teaser that Cassie posted, this week. I totally apologize. If this teaser doesn't make you anxious for COLS, I don't know what will....

"…for helping put Clary, Iz and Tessa at the top of the Tournament of Heroines with badasses like Katniss.

In honor of which, a teaser line from City of Lost Souls. If you don’t want teasers, don’t read on…

——————————-

“Kill me, little sister. Kill me and you kill Jace, too.”

So far Clary from the TMI series is leading the YA Sisterhood Tournament of Heroines, followed by Tessa from the ID series who's in 3rd place, and Isabel from the TMI series who's in 5th place. Clary is beating Katniss from the HG series and Tessa is beating Hermione from the HP series. The entire group of Heroines is awesome, and I have a feeling it's going to be a close competition. Be sure to go VOTE for your favorite HERE.

We've been getting a lot of great questions lately about where the best place to order a special edition of CP is. I'm going to list the different editions and where to purchase them at. Please let me know if you have any more questions about CP and where to order it at. I'd be more than happy to answer your questions.

Simon & Schuster has a link to ALL the retailers selling CP here. Not everyone on this list is selling the special edition. The cover of the book will say Special Edition on it. Please note, that all pre-orders will not arrive until the 6th or after that date.

Here's a little information from a post I did HERE about the different editions:

The Barnes & Noble USA edition will have this + more. This edition will include what the 1st edition has PLUS an inscription from Will to Tessa in a copy of Tale of Two Cities. Once these sell out, they're gone. This is ONLY offered through Barns & Noble. Here's what it's cover looks like: You can pre-order that HERE

Walmart will also be carrying their own special edition which will have Jem's story called Burning Bright. You can pre-order it HERE. *As far as I can tell, this is their edition, you may want to call them before placing your order, but that's all I could find on their site.

SIGNED COPIES:

Books of Wonder in NYC is taking pre-orders for CP. These copies will be sent out the day of publication!! They're also giving away a poster (the shadowhunter poster) will supplies last w/ their pre-orders. Be sure to call them at 212-989-3270 or email them at customerservice@booksofwonder.com

Book Review: The Scorch Trials by James Dashner

Released on: October 12th, 2010
Source: Bought
4 stars: I Enjoyed It!

Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. No more variables. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escape meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one really knew what sort of life they were going back to.

In the Maze, life was easy. They had food, and shelter, and safety . . . until Teresa triggered the end. In the world outside the Maze, however, the end was triggered long ago.Burned by sun flares and baked by a new, brutal climate, the earth is a wasteland. Government has disintegrated—and with it, order—and now Cranks, people covered in festering wounds and driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim . . . and meal. The Gladers are far from finished with running. Instead of freedom, they find themselves faced with another trial. They must cross the Scorch, the most burned-out section of the world, and arrive at a safe haven in two weeks. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.Thomas can only wonder—does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED? - quoted from Goodreads

Talk about a sequel that picks up right where the first book in the series leaves off. I went from finishing The Maze Runner right into The Scorch Trials, and boy was I naive in thinking James would give me a moment to catch by breath and let my heart rate slow down a bit. James Dashner doesn't shy away from throwing readers right back into this series' dangerous, thrilling, intense world. Instead of maze this time, it's a scorched world and wow do the twists in this series keep on coming.

Unlike The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials is set in a land that's barren, dry, and really could be defined as hell. This land is void of anything beautiful and good. Living in this land are savage people who have been infected with a disease called the Flare. Here's the thing that James Dashner does with this series, he introduces you to people who you'd normal despise, but in a twisted way he makes you fell sympathy for them, when normally that would be the last thing you'd want to do. Case in point, The Cranks. The innocent people who've been infected and basically banished to live in this horrid condition. That's the thing that got to me, the fact that they were forced to become something they're not, and in turn it made them go wild and crazy. I really felt bad for them.

Someone I didn't feel bad for, WICKED aka "the Creators". These people make me so mad. I get that the feel their actions are just in trying to save their world, but holy crap, I can't excuse the stuff they do. If I thought stuff that happened in the maze was cruel, the things the WICKED do are far worse. I'll just leave it at that. I'm sure I could go on and on about all they do, but then I'd give things away and I don't want to spoil this for anyone. It's seriously shocking what they do, but surprisingly through all this Thomas grows into the leader I thought he'd become in The Maze Runner.

Thomas for me is the character that's grown by far the most. He's really stepped up and taken control the of the situations that the Gladers are constantly put in. Just when I think that things can't get worse for them, they do. It's the knowing that some thing has to give for them that keeps me reading this, well and that and the fact that I'm completely hooked on finding out who's behind on all this and what's going to happen next.

Let me just say, James Dashner knows how to write action, butt kicking scenes, mystery, and killer cliff hangers! He reveals just enough for me to understand as much as Thomas does about this world, which intrigues me more than it irritates me. Normally I'd want to know what's going to happen next, but before I can start listing all my questions something else comes up and the story's action filled plot leaves me clinging to the edge of my seat. This is one series I think even the most reluctant reader will enjoy. Since we get a lot of questions about what books we'd recommend for guys, I'd definitely recommend picking this series up!

Flashback Friday #6- The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Flashback Friday was inspired while trying to figure out a way to help spread the word about books that aren't new releases. This is a weekly post we'll doing that will include a review of a book that's been out for awhile or one that's been sitting on our shelves begging us to read it. I have no idea why I waited so long to read this week's spotlight, The Maze Runner.

By: James Dashner
Published by: Delacorte Press/Random House

4 Stars: I Enjoyed It
Purchase from: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.
-quoted from Goodreads

If you took a story like Lord of the Flies and placed it into a complex dystopian world full of danger, mystery and suspense you'd get The Maze Runner. This book has a fast moving plot that holds a lot of questions and reveals little answers. Normally I don't like being kept in the dark when I'm reading a book, but James Dashner's writing style was thrilling and the "not knowing" is what I found to be most intriguing with this story.

There's a cast of fascinating characters in The Maze Runner. The story follows Thomas, the main character who seems connected to the maze some how, doesn't seem to remember anything about it, or how he got there. What I admired most about Thomas is his courage and bravery, which quickly allows him to be an example to the other guys he's there with. There's also plenty of suspicions about who he is and why he's here. No one has ever entered their world, and been able to accomplish what Thomas does so quickly, which deepens the mystery surrounding him and his purpose there.

The Maze Runner's world is complex, deadly, and totally fascinating. I'm in awe over the cast of characters who have learned to survive in this world. Made up of mostly boys, these guys have learned how to survive amid all the odds stacked against them. They're smart, resourceful, fearless, and when faced with a life or death situation they manage to keep their cool (for the most part). Things are shaken up a bit with the arrival of Teresa, the only girl to ever enter this world. I definitely wasn't excepting her shocking role in this story. Throw in some deadly and completely freaky Grievers who I swear are some of the freakiest things I've read about, and you'll have your gory scenes. Sounds enticing doesn't it? It was to me, because I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I needed answers!

Wow, the plot twists that are revealed towards the end of the book are shocking to say the least. I didn't see those coming at all, and I'm ready for more! My only compliant is how abruptly the story ends, which leads me to believe the series will pick up exactly where this book ends. I think this is a book that even the more reluctant male reader will enjoy. There's plenty of thrilling action, suspense, mystery and of course a little bit of gore. This is a book I'd recommend picking up for reading 12 yrs & older.

Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine

-despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?

Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?

For fans of best-sellers like Before I Fall and If I Stay, this is a fascinating and heart-rending story about love and friendship and the fine line between life and death. -quoted from Goodreads

I can not wait to read this. I'm totally sold on this premise, and the cover is fabulous. I like how Delany's reflection is looking back at her *creepy*. This book has already been added to my to read list as well as my debut author challenge. What book are you waiting to be released?

5 stars: Loved It!

What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills -quoted from Goodreads

Wow! This action packed debut has everything I love in a book! The writing is beautiful, the plot is well paced, the story is not only engaging, but completely captivating with it's sit on the edge of your seat action, a butt kicking heroine, an equally awesome hero, and there's this fabulous, swoon worthy romance. Plus there's deception, lies, betrayal, close family ties and a dangerous mystery that leaves me wanting more from this series.

Marie Lu's dystopian world is heart pounding, exciting, dangerous and intriguing. Legend's world is set in the futuristic America in the republic of California. This world is chaotic to say the least. Not only is the government corrupt and doing secret testing, but it's at war with the Colonies, aka other parts of America, which have all been broken off into groups. I love the Marie doesn't reveal all the little details about Legend's world. With this being the first in the series, I'm looking forward to learning more about it as the series goes along. Let me just say the world building in Legend is amazing! If you removed the characters from the story, you could feel the desperation, chaos and danger that surround this republic.

The characters! These are some well written, well developed characters. Much like the world building, you learn just enough about them to connect you with them. I love June and Day's match up! These two are the perfect match, literately. They both have striking similar intelligence, combat skills, and they're both driven by the same thing. This match up made for some fabulous swoon-worthly chemistry between the two. As butt kicking as they both are, it was easy for me to connect with the vulnerability they both have. As similar as they are, I also like the little differences they have. Day is definitely on my list of favorite literary characters! How can I not fall in love with a character like him. How can I not love a heroine like June? She rocks it in this book.

I LOVED that Marie wrote this story from both June and Day's points of views, making it even easier to get to know them. This is one of the best written alternating points of views book I've read this year! Marie's writing is absolutely amazing! If you want to know how alternating points of view should be written, read Legend. I'm really blown away that this is Marie's debut book. Her writing is flawless, her plot is solid, fast moving and leaves me wanting so much! This is a thrilling dystopian read that's made my list of favorites from 2011. There's plenty of suspense, action and romance that will keep readers hooked from the moment they open the book to the very end. I highly recommend picking it up!
